Pam Slim QuoteI met author, speaker and business consultant Pam Slim when I was first starting out in business. She was speaking at an event in Vancouver, where I was living at the time, and I remember being thrilled when she agreed to take the time to meet with me for coffee at like 7am!

Ever since then I have been a huge fan. For those of you who don’t know Pam (and you totally should!) she is passionate about helping others build a career by following their passions in a way that benefits others.  She covers all of this in her new book Body of Work.

Something that really resonates with me about her new book is the emphasis she puts on needing to re-frame what we think of the term “career”. Entrepreneurs love to think they are superior for having their own business, but don’t consider their business a career.

On the contrary, entrepreneurs see those who choose a career (aka those who follow the corporate path) as being lesser than them. What I love is how she calls those people out for this insulting way of thinking and instead shifts the focus to be on creating a body of work that we can be proud of.
