Since I first became obsessed with how to have more freedom in my life, I’ve always asked this question to my community – what does FREEDOM mean to you?

There are different versions of freedom and yours may differ from mine, but most people, when I ask this will tell me that freedom is working on what you love, when you want and where you want.

Who wouldn’t want that?

Lately I’ve realized my version of freedom is changing after a pretty life-changing event brought me home in a rush to be with my Dad in hospital, and with my family.

All my priorities shifted as I told people I was back in my hometown of  Wellington indefinitely.

Each time I said that word, even though I didn’t truly know what it meant for me, it started to sink in that I was sticking around for longer than a month or too, and for the first time since leaving New Zealand in 2006, I was happy to be doing so.

I’ve always said it’s not just about having the freedom to work anywhere or anytime you want, or to travel the world, it’s also about having more time and freedom to spend with your loved ones, family and friends when you choose too.

As you can imagine when I made the decision to stick around it was a very big one for me that kind of crept up and then hit me, and made me surprisingly calm, centered and grateful to stop for a while and deepen my bonds with my family, make new friends and create a community on the ground in person, to complement my amazing online one.

It’s a very big change in my life from being the Suitcase Entrepreneur for 5 years to having a soon to be home.

In this Fresh in Fifteen episode, I’ll reveal the Facebook announcement I shared on October 3rd and the amazing and touching reaction I got from people around the world.
