After having a 1 week digital sabbatical and relaxing holiday exploring Portugal, followed by a 4 day an Ultimate Frisbee beach tournament, I’ve had plenty of time to sit back and think on what’s next.

Except it hit me in a way I hadn’t expected. And for once I don’t have the answer.

When Is It Time to StopIt started with this feeling of unrest in wanting to just relax and not do much of anything except be a tourist (a rarity for me). Then that feeling got stronger and stronger until I was over thinking big life changes.

I’ve totally fallen for Portugal and there’s a big part of me that just wants to stay put, unpack and stay here for sometime. I want to learn the language, and be part of the community here.

I don’t even desire to jump on my flight back to New York in September. I currently want to stay in Europe and enjoy more time off and exploring, as well as just being.

When I told my friend this they simply asked “Why don’t you just stop?”.

I sat back kind of stunned. I mean it’s a totally logical response but one I’ve not considered, or if I have, I’ve not fully admitted it to myself as an option.

Naturally, as I’ve talked about in my podcasts, I’ve been shifting to spending more time in fewer places for sometime, although it’s not really been happening. That’s because I still love traveling and to explore.

Two months in San Diego turned into one and then an impromptu trip to Colorado. And I’ve been jumping around since from New York to London to Lisbon. But since then I’ve transitioned into a more relaxed, chilled out Natalie who has different priorities.

And so my question I aim to answer in this podcast episode is when do you know if it’s time to stop?

  • If you’re a traveler when is it time to stop?
  • If you’re an entrepreneur when is it time to change direction or quit what you’re doing if it’s not working?
  • If you’ve stayed in one place for too long, when is it time to make the leap and hit the road?

As I mentioned I don’t have the answers so this is one of those rare podcasts in which I am happy to settle in the state of not knowing and just process. But I can tell that change is a brewing…..

I’d love your thoughts on when you’ve been in this place before and how you’ve handled it in the comments below!
