What Real Suitcase Entrepreneurs Want In 2012 [Infographic]

I’m a big one for getting under the skin of my community. For really understanding what makes them tick. I like to reach into their minds to their deepest darkest fears and get to the heart of their entrepreneurial challenges.

In other words like to ask you questions a lot so I can give you answers! And this year I thought we’d make this a little more fun.

What Do Suitcase Entrepreneurs Really Really Want in 2012?

In mid December through to mid January I polled the readers of my weekly Highflyer newsletter and asked them several questions like:

  1. What type of business do you currently have (or would like to have)
  2. Why did you/ do you want to start your own business?
  3. What do you struggle with most with your business (or business idea)?
  4. What is your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) You want to achieve in 2012?
  5. What do you want to learn more about  e.g attracting clients, social media, multiple revenue streams, goal setting, building an online business etc?

I got a ton of responses, fascinating answers and about a gazillion things to follow up on. So rather than report back with statistics and graphs, I had the very creative Azriel Chan do this wonderful infographic of the key insights we pulled from your responses.

May I present to you the first ever infographic on this blog !

What Now?

The great news is this is all extremely helpful for guiding the type of content I put out here on the Suitcase Entrepreneur. So you can expect more epic posts that speak to these very areas.

You’ll also see me bringing in a few experts to guest post over the next two months while I’m off biking 4,000 miles across Africa to raise $10K for Women Win. I’m really excited about what I have lined up for you based on the results of this survey. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know you better in 2012.

Are you ready to step things up in your business?

Work Less, Earn More, Make A DifferenceBy the looks of the above infographic you certainly are. If you’re really keen to understand the key building blocks you need to create a profitable business that is aligned with who you are and what is important to you then I HIGHLY recommend taking this just launched program from Janine and Jo, from Love Your Small Business.

These are the women to help you create a business that aligns with who you really are and one in which nothing will stop you from succeeding. But their `Work Less, Earn More, Make A Difference’ program is only available for a short time, so take a look here (and 5% of profits goes to Women Win through my ride!).

I think that this is an awesome infographic and definitely sums up what I want as an entrepreneur. For me, finding that ideal client is still a challenge. I’ve outsourced pretty well over the years and the different business apps now and days makes it so easy to do so.

Freedom and Passion are my two top reasons for being an entrepreneur. I do agree with what Tim Ferris says about not being the boss nor the employee, but the owner of the business. Thanks for sharing!

The info graphic is great. I just went through developing the strategic plans for both of my organizations and I would be happy to share and/or participate in a webinar to walk others through it. Also, I’ve run my orgs while traveling for weeks at a time in remote parts of the world and would be happy to speak to that as well. Just let me know how I can help.

Thanks Angela. If you have a link to your strategic plans on your website or as a slideshare presentation let me know or feel free to share a link here. Congrats on being a suitcase entrepreneur too!

    Hi Natalie,

Stumbled across your blog and was pleasantly delighted to see you are a fellow kiwi girl and entrepreneur! I have been juggling my own business (similar-but-different to yours) with my day job, and I’m on the brink of leaving said day job and going it alone. I have started my blog to document my journey from office dweller to… a suitcase entrepreneur!!!

Cool infographic! Azriel Chan did a great job!(I like the name Azriel, too!) Makes me want to do a custom one just for my desktop. I think I’d swap out the suitcase for a Schooner, though. ;-)

This is a very nice infographic, for the information you provided and also the art work done. All mentioned above is true for who ever wants to be an entrepreneur.

Great post Natalie, and awesome to find out more about what is at the heart of things for your ever-expanding tribe of entrepreneurs.

I got a warm buzz from the fact that we are clearly on track with what freedom -based lifestyle entrepreneurs are looking for when it comes to our MAD ecourse!

Thanks for endorsing us and our work in this way.

Janine (and Jo, who is off for a well-deserved break in the outdoors as we speak!)

Ouch, I hate it when people read my mind! Especially the parts of my mind I don’t really want to admin (e.g. goals I have yet to achieve, struggles I’m still holding onto, etc.).

I’m extremely envious of your uber-cool infographic! Great job and congratulations on your first one. Another round of congrats to hiring someone else to design it for you. I don’t know about your design skills, but I’m somewhere between “I could do that myself.” and “Whoa, step aside for the professional.” Well done.

I’m looking forward to following more of your posts and seeing what you have in store for 2012. I just posted When Am I Ever Going to Get Caught Up? so your post kinda hit home hard. Thanks, that helps (no really). ;-)

Great to have you hear Bradley, what a cool website name too – Pass The Sour Cream. Looking forward to checking you out. I’m thrilled to have an infographic up and one that’s so well received. I do like to hit home when I write my posts too – it helps me know I’m reaching the right people I want to help and see succeed

Thanks Natalie for taking the time to ask the sometimes difficult questions, listening to the essence of what most small business owners really want and are challenged by, and then having the forethought to simplify the answers into a visual snapshot! It always fascinates me to see how different we Entrepreneurs appear yet really alike we really are and think when you cut through all the clutter! Perhaps a scary thought, though I find it can be comforting when I have a burning question about what to do with my new or existing businesses, and am unsure what to do next or who to turn to for honest advice, or a reminder of why I’m even doing what I’m doing. The answer could be as close as simply asking myself or someone who is in a similar business, industry or development stage. And the most exciting answers, insights or introductions can be those you don’t expect or didn’t know you needed…

Exactly. While all our situations are unique our problems and challenges are often the same and we need to reach out to others who’ve had them and overcome them to learn from them and be guided.
