The most critical step for your business at Christmas

Posted on 08. Dec, 2009 by in Entrepreneurs, Inspiration & Motivation, Mind & Body Balance

It’s no big secret, it really isn’t. It’s you.

Recharging your batteries in businessThe most critical and important part of your business is you. And you need to take quality time out for yourself both in the lead up to Christmas and during the break.

Break I hear you say? ‘What’s that. I never stop. I work 7 days a week and 12 + hours per day. I don’t have time not to work on and in my business’.

Well this Xmas give yourself the best gift in the world – the time to reflect, recharge and renenergize your entrepreneurial self so that you can charge into 2010.

I’ve just come back from a weekend retreat with five other ladies in Kelowna. We were offered a free house for the weekend and decided it was worth it to drive for four hours (accompanied by stunning scenery) there and back, for some quality time relaxing at a crazy time of the year.

I’ve never seen four out of six women arrive and go to take a nap! That’s how wiped out we all were. By the end of the weekend though we were all well rested, focused and extremely glad we took that time out.

What you can learn when you’re not plugged in

Yes that’s right. No internet and barely any cellphone reception meant we were all a little lost. We soon realised we had time to focus on ourselves.unplug and recharge as an entrepreneur

We took time out to do what was long overdue – read books, watch movies, catch up on each others lives, discuss topics covering anything and everything and discuss our business ideas, opportunities and challenges and share our learnings.

I personally had a super productive time reviewing my goals for this year and next. Getting inspired again. Regaining focus and setting up a new weekly 1 page template to track my progress that was simple, minimalist and gave me energy.

At the top of this weekly milestone sheet sits the speech made by Nelson Mandela to remind me where my priorities should lie with my own twist on it:

`Our deepest fear is not that we’re inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be fabulous, brilliant, talented, gorgeous? Actually who are you not to be, you are a child of the Universe and your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, like children do.

We are born to manifest the glory within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in every one of us. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give people permission to do the same. As we are liberated by our fears, our presence automatically liberates others.’  Nelson Mandela

That’s just beautiful to read on a daily basis. I recommend you remember why you’re brilliant, talented and gorgeous and cut yourself some slack!
