I think that without a doubt social media is changing the landscape for advertisers. Twitter, facebook, blogs, video, etc is a way to speak to consumers and not just at them.

Hi Robert

Great point. Yes hashtags are incredibly useful. By putting # in front of keywords either in your twitter message or at the end of it, it allows people searching keywords that you've used to discover you.

Such as #social media, #entrepreneurs, #smallbiz

Then when you go to the Twitter search on the home page and key in one of those terms you will see your tweets coming up, in amongst other people who are tweeting about the same areas.

This has dual benefits, you're getting discovered by people who are interested in what you're doing, AND you can connect with people with the same interests by following them and getting in touch.

This all builds your community and levels of engagement.

Hi Natalie,

Awesome post! Twellow is new to me so I'll check that out today.

Quick question... do you find hashtags useful? I use them to find article sources and I include relevant hashtags in each of my tweets. I didn't see them mentioned in this post, so I'm wondering if there is a negative to them I'm overlooking?

Thanks!
